Kiveton Park well beaten in a top of the Championship clash

Kiveton Park were comfortably beaten by nine wickets in a Bassetlaw Championship top of the table clash with Ordsall Bridon.

The toss was always going to be crucial, but Kiveton skipper Luke Donaghy lost it and the visitors put the Stone Close men in to bat.

Kiveton’s openers were under pressure from the off by Bridon’s Australian fast bowler Tim Miles and Matt Makings.

Batsmen Adam Whiteley (14) and Richard Grainger (31) started positively, but batting was going to be difficult, especially when in form Whiteley was bowled by Miles with a well delivered yorker.

Kiveton’s batting had been so reliable so far this season but the conditions and excellent bowling never let Kiveton off the hook.

A steady stream of wickets fell, only Grainger and Richard Spurr (21) reaching double figures in their eventual total of 139 all out.

Nobody was sure what a good score was in the conditions ,so Kiveton were still confident of victory.

Unfortunately Bridon’s opening batsman seized upon some wayward bowling in brutal fashion.

Paul Van Den Heuval (53*) and Dave Fagan (34) gave Bridon the perfect start with an opening partnership of 74.

And Aussie Miles (42*) continued the momentum hitting five sixes and two fours to see the visitors home in 23 overs.
