Kiveton Park’s recent slump in form continued with a comprehensive six-wicket defeat to Clipstone at Stone Close.

The toss was always going to be crucial due to indifferent weather the previous day, and Clipstone won it and duly inserted the home side.

Kiveton got off to the worst possible start as Clipstone’s opening bowler Louis Sprigg (4 for 40) produced perhaps his best spell of bowling this season to dismiss Adam Whiteley (2) and Richard Grainger (4) to leave the home side struggling on 9 for 2.

It got worse for Kiveton as Matt Cartwright (12) was dismissed by the same bowler to leave the home side in disarray at 29 for 3.

Matt Hall (25) and Jonathan Plant staged a recovery as they moved the score on to 73 before Hall fell to the bowling of Jason Gorman (2 for 40).

Thereafter, despite Plant’s resolve, Kiveton lost regular wickets as the Clipstone bowlers, including spinner Ian Woodall (2 for 4), dismissed the home side for just 126 with no other batsman reaching double figures.

Clipstone were very confident in chasing the lowly target especially as the wicket had dried out during the first innings.

They started confidently with openers Matt Millns (25) and Scott Powell (35) posting a 50-partnership in good time before the former was dismissed by Matt Hall.

Kiveton were able to grab another three wickets, Chris Storey the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 23, but runs continued to leak and Clipstone reached their target in just the 29th over to ensure a very early finish to the match.
