League and cup double for Clumber Park Under 17s

CLUMBER Park Under 17s clinched their first league and cup double for 10 years on Sunday.

The youngsters took on league runners-up Bridon in the Smedley Cup final at home.

Winning the toss, Clumber captain Matt Wheatley had no hesitation in batting first and the hosts cruised along.

But tight bowling from the visitors sparked a middle order collapse, which left the game hanging in the balance.

Only Wheatley (23) and Will Walker (26) from the top order scored runs.

It was left to Jack Palfreyman (18) and wicket-keeper batsmen Josh Taylor (28) to scrape Clumber to a respectable 133 all out.

In reply Bridon got off to a solid start with 16 runs off the first two overs.

Tom Rix took two wickets back onto the Bridon batsmen.

The game hung in the balance until the introduction of Jack Palfreyman.

He tormented the Bridon batsmen taking 5 for 18, ably supported by Seth Bird and Callum Rutherford.

Archie Bird claimed the last wicket as Clumber stormed to a 67-run victory.

The umpires adjudged Palfreyman as Man of the Match.
