Fielding a team with six players under the age of 18, the Rasen skipper won the toss and asked the visitors to bat.

The game began with a Market Rasen landmark as the bowling was opened by a father-daughter combination for the first time, in Megan and veteran seamer Andy Quinlan. They applied plenty of early pressure and there was another family connection when James Quinlan took an excellent catch at square leg off his younger sister’s bowling.

Rasen were unable to sustain the pressure and there were missed chances and two missed caught and bowled chances.

The innings was finished off well by the young Keast brothers and James Quinlan who collected two wickets, but Rasen were disappointed to have conceded 157-8.

As the young Keast brothers set about chasing down the total, a repeat of the previous week looked on the cards. But after reaching their century stand, the curse of the drinks break struck, Nick falling for 49 and James for 48 in consecutive deliveries.

Knowing the pressure was on, Sleaford introduced spin at both ends and Rasen began to struggle.

Mark Bedford showed his continuing improvement this season with a couple of lusty blows in his 13, and captain James Snell attempted to knuckle down, but despite attempting a strong defence, he was unable to figure out the leg spin and eventually offered a simple return chance.

Lawrence Cook then attempted to steady the ship on his Rase Park debut, alongside the reliable Shaun French, but the required rate rose steadily, proving too much for the youthful Rasen tail and they finished 13 short on 144-9.

The Sunday XI are at home again on Sunday against Cherry Willingham.
