Narrow defeat for Aston Hall

SOUTH YORKS PREMIER

Aston Hall 129

Wickersley OV 132 for 8

AT Green Lane, Wickersley Old Village managed a close win over neighbours Aston Hall to take them into third position in the Premier Division.

Aston Hall batted first and Marshall Pooley opened with 34.

The home team had little else to offer against Shaaiq Choudhry, acquired from Undercliffe in the Bradford league.

The newcomer helped himself to 5 for 28 against a bemused Aston line up.

Aston Hall were bowled out for 129.

Haider Jahangir took 3 for 28.

The game was by no means finished and Wickersley wilted under the attack of Aston Hall ace Rob Ward, who took six of the first seven wickets to fall.

Wickersley were in disarray at 51 for 7.

Once again stumper Andrew Baker came to the rescue aided by an innings of 32 from Richard Harrison as the duo added 70 runs for the eighth wicket.

Baker was still in at the close with 47 not out as Wickersley won with two wickets to spare.

Ward took 6 for 46.
