Narrow defeat for battling Horncastle

It was a very busy weekend for Horncastle Cricket Club with away matches for all three senior sides and an East Lindsey Cricket Festival for the U10s.

The Saturday first XI travelled to Louth to take on their second XI in the Lincolnshire Premier League Division Two North and it proved to be a very tight match.

Louth batted first and were restricted to 186-8 from their 45 overs.

Tom Hackett (three wickets) and Finn Fisher (two) did the damage along with a very economical spell from Muhammad Afzal.

Horncastle’s reply went in fits and starts with batters getting themselves in but then getting out. Despite the best efforts of Chris Bargh (38) and Tom Hackett (27), it wasn’t to be with the visitors ending all out for 169, handing Louth the victory by 17 runs.

In Division Three Central, Horncastle seconds fell to a heavy 10 wicket defeat at Grimoldby. Having been bowled out for just 65, Horncastle were never in the game and the hosts knocked the runs off with ease.

Horncastle Sunday XI spent a long hot afternoon in the field and went round the park as Caythorpe racked up a whopping 353-5 from their 40.

Credit to Horncastle bowler Josh Bouchereau, who stuck to it and picked up an excellent three wickets.

Horncastle’s reply was about pride and some was restored with a total of 215-6.

A 78 from Micheal Ackerman and 62 from Chris Bargh brought the visitors full batting points but wasn’t enough to stop a heavy defeat by 138 runs.

Horncastle U10s travelled to Grimoldby for the latest East Lindsey Festival.

They were joined by Skegness, Louth Girls and Grimoldby for a wonderful morning of cricket.

Horncastle had enough players to put two teams out and they all battled the heat and really showed their skills.

In the Lincolnshire Premier League Premier Division, winless Woodhall Spa suffered a narrow eight run defeat at Lindum and remain bottom.

Asked to bat, Lindum made 153 all out, recovering from 62-7, James Kimber scoring 29 and Harry Hollingsworth taking 3-30 from seven overs.

But Woodhall Spa were then bowled out for 145 with 11 balls to spare.

Openers George Pocklington (29) and Oliver Carr (26) put on 46, but the reply fell short with 4-20 for Rory Grieve.

In Division One South, Woodhall Spa seconds lost by 44 runs at home to Freiston L&L.
