Park staying young

The club’s Andy Smith told the Guardian that Clumber were different in their approach from other outfits in the league.

He said: “Unlike other sides with overseas professionals, first team captain Mark Dean aims to use the season to give some exposure to some of the talented youngsters within the club.”

“Obviously the younger members of the team will have good days and bad, but Mark is hopeful of putting on some eye catching displays for spectators.”

Clumber haven’t recruited for the first team this winter, and have lost bowler Andy Stoneman to Anston.

The club’s second team, who won Division Five last season, start the new campaign at Marshalls II, expecting a tougher challenge against a higher level of opposition in Division Four.

Andy said: “Consistency will be the key for the experienced campaigners in the side to help a couple of new faces to the club settle in.”

Captain of the thirds, Owen Jervis, takes his side into another season in Division Seven looking for a promotion challenge.

In Division eight the fourths will be used to give senior cricket experience to junior players.
