Winning the toss, Anston had no hesitation in batting on the flat Bridon wicket.

But the Ryton Road boys were soon in trouble as C. Rutherford (1 for 19) bowled J. Tweed for four, and B. Sumervile was run out.

Anston captain J. Marsh looked assured and confident as he reached 54 but the introduction of spinners A. Menzhausen (3 for 33) and captain S. Bird (1 for 7) meant wickets kept falling.

A handy patnership between J. Littelwood (22) and J. Mason (23) pushed Anston above 100 but tight bowling from J. Palfreyman (0 for 7 off seven overs) and T. Rix (4 for 18) restricted Anston to 133 all out.

In reply, Clumbers openers found it difficult against the Anston new ball bowlers.

J. Mason (1 for 24) and Littelwood (2 for 23) picking up wickets but S. Bird (29) and J. Palfreyman (53) kept Clumber above the run rate.

A quick brace from J. Cannings (2 for 18) threatened to swing the momentum back in Anston’s favour, but T. Rix (6*) and B. Tomlinson (7*) saw Clumber home to win by four wickets.

Clumber’s Jack Palfreyman was adjudged by the standing umpires as a performer worthy of the Man of the Match award.

A spokesman for Clumber Park Cricket Club told the Worksop Guardian: “The support both teams received was fantastic.”

“The final added to what was a fantastic way to finish the 2013 junior league season.”
