St John’s look to end 26 year wait for the Bassetlaw title

But this year could see the end of that record, as they have already moved into the semi-finals with wins over Sir Edmund Hillary and Redlands B.

For the fourth time this year however they will now meet reigning champions Ryton Park.

St John’s defeated Ryton in the early group stages of the Bassetlaw competition and also in the the ASDA sponsored Year Six tournament, but lost to them in the final play-off for a place in the County Final.

St John’s however qualified for both the Year Five and Girls ASDA County Finals.

They also had further success when they reached the quarter-finals of the official Notts County Girls Championship after defeating Barnby Road of Newark and now entertain Ollerton Primary Girls.

The other semi-finalists in the Bassetlaw competition, and flying the flag for our talented smaller schools, are Everton and Gamston.

Everton overcame Gringley and St John’s B, while Gamston were too strong for Blyth and Ryton Park C.

The most exciting moment in the Bassetlaw competition came between Redlands and Ryton Park.

With the lead in the last over changing ball by ball, the last ball arrived with the teams all square.

But Ryton Park’s Mayhdi Ahmed won the tie with a massive six.
