Horncastle CC Sunday have been crowned champions following a five-wicket victory at Barkston and Syston.

Rob Bee kept his cool as he hit the winning runs to spark the celebrations as the side claimed the Lincoln and District League Division Two title with two matches to spare.

And it was also a moment of personal achievement for Bee as, on 96 runs, he struck a four to claim promotion and also ensure he reached a century on Sunday.

Barkston posted 155-7 off their 40 overs with Richard Hickling causing the hosts all sorts of problems, claiming two wickets for the loss of 18 runs.

Ashley Bullivant (2-21) and Bee (2-45) also took two wickets while a further scalp was claimed by William Broughton (1-30).

For Barkston, Dominik Modd (43) and Neil Jameson (37) caused the most problems, before Hickling caught and bowled Modd and Bee took care of Jameson.

Matthew Whittle (20 not out) and Matt Walton (13) added to the home side’s score.

Horncastle claimed their vital victory in the 32nd over, reaching 159-5.

Bee’s dramatic century was backed up by Bullivant (23) and Christopher Bargh (14 not out).

Hykeham had been Horncastle’s closest challengers this year, but their defeat at Reepham confirmed that the title was headed to Coronation Walk.

Horncastle have recorded 11 victories, one defeat and two cancellations from their opening 14 matches and hold an insurmountable 42-point lead.

On Sunday they host Market Rasen (1.30pm) before concluding their campaign at home to Reepham on September 16.

The Horncastle Saturday side conceded their match at Keelby this weekend.

On Saturday they travel to Scunthorpe Thirds (1pm).
