Veteran Louth batsman Keith makes Lincs League history

Veteran Louth cricketer Keith West made history on Saturday by scoring 73 runs for Louth Third XI in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League. Keith, who turns 70 next week, opened the batting in the 45-over match against Lincoln Lindum and batted all the way through the innings for three hours to notch up his undefeated total.

He was well supported at the top of the order by young Tom Law and by Zubair Ahmed.

The score looks likely to be the highest made by a batsman over the age of 65 in the Lincolnshire League and was the highest total by a Louth player in all three sides on Saturday.

Keith’s two sons also featured well with the bat, with Stewart scoring 51 not out for Louth Second XI and Graham scoring 45 for the Firsts.

Keith was the star, but unfortunately his innings left him unable to keep wicket in the second innings with Mark Duell taking the gloves and helping the side to victory.

Keith also plays regularly for Lincolnshire over 60s and made the initial 30-man England squad for the over 70s Ashes against Australia to be held in England this summer.

He didn’t make the final 18 playing squad, but if he maintains his current form, stands every chance of making the cut next year.
