The Valentine’s Day victory was by no means a massacre, but it saw GB level the six-test series 1-1, with the two Boston-born competitors starting the match.

The only goal of the match was netted by Susie Gilbert from a penalty corner in the 18th minute, the scorer being fastest to react to Cullen’s flick.

Macleod, meanwhile, ot on the scoresheet in the opening test, which the host nation won 4-3.

After GB went behind, the striker, who plays for St Albans, levelled the scores with a deflection.

Ellie Watton and Sophie Bray also scored for Britain, with Kathryn Slattery (two), Mariah Williams and Ashleigh Nelson winning it for the Aussies.

The series Down Under is seen as ideal preparation for Danny Kerry’s side ahead of this year’s Olympic Games in Rio.

Match three takes place on Tuesday in Perth.

That will be followed by further contests between the two sides on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, all in Perth.
