CYCLING: Velo-One team enjoy weekend of activity

The Lincoln Grand Prix was a weekend celebration of cycling, starting on the Saturday with the Sportive which saw 12 Velo-One riders taking part, including Horncastle's Tim Kingswood.

More than 1,000 cyclists from all over the country took part in the mass participation event, held over 33, 60, 78 and 102 mile routes through the Lincolnshire Wolds and up the steep cobbled climb of Michaelgate, finishing in Lincoln Castle Square.

Sportives are a personal challenge against the distance and ultimately the clock.

Sunday was race day, with V1’s Madeline Verdegaal taking part in the Women’s Grand Prix amongst 110 riders, over eight laps (104km total) and eight climbs of Michaelgate, competing for a prize fund of £4,800.

The race started at an electrifying pace as riders battled to get to the front of the group. Unfortunately, at the end of the first lap, Maddy got caught behind a group crash, delaying her enough to not be able to rejoin the main group and forcing her retirement.

Away from Lincoln, the V1 time trialists continued their season. Antony Gough raced at the Herewood 10 (Peterborough CC) on Thursday evening, posting the second fastest time of the night with 23min 23sec, a course PB by 1:35.

Sunday saw V1’s Antony Gough and Neil Palmer race the Bourne Wheelers Open 10 on the A15 Quarrington to Osbournby roundabout course. Antony and Neil finished fourth and fifth overall with times of 21:56 and 22:00 respectively.
