Cyclists ride out to Belton in family day

A pleasant ride allowing children and families to experience a cycle ride on country roads took them through Beckingham, Walkeringham, Misteron, West Stockwith, Graiselound, Westwoodside, and Sandtoft before arriving at Belton.

The riders who took part were Daniel Nicholson, Joe Smith, aged 15, Trevor Halstead, Paul Reynolds, Paul Wright, Loll Dickenson, Liam Hindmarsh, aged 13, Sophie Hindmarsh, aged nine, Matt Hindmarsh, Colin Smith, Dave Day and Pete Hanks.

Refreshed after their lunch stop the ride resumed retuning home riding through Belton, Beltoft, arriving in West Butterwick.

The river Trent was followed as the riders headed south through Kelfield, Owston Ferry, Gunthorpe, and West Stockith. Riders then returned home through Misterton and Walkeringham and Beckingham arriving in Gainsborough along the Riverside cycle path.

Race report

A 10-mile time trial started on Laughton Lane proceeding towards Laughton, taking the first left signposted Wildsworth, at Wildsworth the riders headed along the riverside passing through East Stockwith, Walkerith, at Morton Laughton Lane was followed finishing at the starting point.

After heavy rain, the evening was very windy with a head wind on the riverside. The ride was harder than usual for the participants.

Gainsborough Aegir CC: 1st Jordan Skelly (26 minutes 42 seconds) 2nd Julian Hesp (27 minutes 19 seconds) 3rd Matt Hindmarsh (28 minutes 26 seconds) 4th Joe Nash (28 minutes 54 seconds) 5th Liam Hindmarsh (30 minutes 50 seconds - juvenile) 6th Trevor Halstead (31 minutes 12 seconds).

Private Trials (Non Club Members): 1st Andy Lewin (25 minutes 16 seconds) from the Trent Valley Road Club. 2nd Steve Brown (34 minutes 34 seconds) Trike from Scunthorpe Road Club.

To celebrate the Bank Holiday weekend, there will be a leisure ride on Sunday 26th August.

The ride will follow the Trans Pennine Trail to Dunford Bridge, which at 140 miles, is the highest point above sea level along the trail.

Riders are advised to meet at Roseway Gainsborough at 5am.

A strong touring cycle is required. Strong riders only. Please register your intent to ride with Trevor Halstead.

On Wednesday 29th August (course GA10/3) a league 10-mile and juvenile eight-mile time trial will take place.

Riders are to meet at 6.15pm on Laughton Lane. First rider to set off at 6.30pm.
