Dambusters Tri their hardest to impress

Sixteen tmembers of Tri3 Sleaford Triathlon Club competed in the Olympic-distance Dambuster Triathlon.

The swim took place in the Rutland Water lake and was a single 1,500m lap, followed by a 42km bike race and the 10km run across the dam – for which this event is named.

The triathletes from Tri3 Sleaford were Matt Craven, Derek Jones, Paul Duncan, Tania Addlesee, Roy Jackson, Phillipa Hill, Nikki Cooper, Mark Holman, Mark Armstrong, Andrew Clark, Gav Meadows, Simon Jackson, Jon Edge, George Hackney and youngster Seamus Sheard, who came second in his age category (17-18).

On Friday night club members Debbie Carleton, Vince McNiffe, Hannah North, Emma Marshall-Telfer and Katherine Andrews competed in Long Bennington’s Summer Solstice 10k.

On Monday Tri3 Sleaford organised and ran the second of its three Aquathons from Sleaford Leisure Centre, with 15 adults competing in the event with a 400m swim, followed by a 5km run.

In addition, 21 juniors aged eight and above competed at shorter distances with some fantastic results.

The third Aquathon will take place on July 18 and is open to anyone aged eight and above.

To register arrive at Sleaford Leisure Centre at 6.15pm to register.

The club also has places available at Billinghay outdoor pool on Saturday for a junior training session.

Five Tri3 Sleaford members joined Sleaford Wheelers Ladies for their inaugural Ladies-Only Time Trial.

The course was the 7.8 mile route from Silk Willerby to the Osbournby roundabout and back, and this was many of the competitors’ first experience of a time trial.

The evening was a great success with 23 participants of all ages and abilities taking part.

Alice Standish of Bourne Wheelers took the top spot in 20 minutes 9 seconds.

The next event will be held tomorrow (Thursday) and registration is from 6.30pm at the Horseshoes, Silk Willerby, and is open to women of all ages and abilities (from 12 years plus).
