DARTS: Monkeys wrap up Skeggy league

Arctic Shrew Monkeys wrapped up the league with an impressive display against the Welcome Anchors, rattling off an 11-1 victory, with Lee Dore throwing the Anchors’ only leg with 125, 134, 140 and a 16 darter.

A fantastic display my the champions saw Shaun Drury hitting 180, Rick Garner a 16 darter, David Tuplin 137 and 3 x 140, Colin Lees 180, Lee Yates 2 x 140 and a 180, and Martin Bell 123, 137, 3 x140 and a 14 dart leg . A big well done to them champions with four games to go.

Second spot is up for grabs with three teams are in the hunt. Seaview Oak had a fantastic win 8-4 over Red Lion, a result that ends any hopes the Lion had of getting the second spot, despite Chris Simpson getting another maximum and an 18 dart leg.

The in-house derby at the Ex Service between Sports and 501s saw the 501s come away with an 8-4 victory, with Gary Garton 2 x 140 and a 20 dart leg, Chris Fletcher 121, 125, 140, and Dave Manson hitting a maximum. Mark Gray was also on the maximum trail for the Sports.

Liberal Lads looked to be cruising to victory as they led Ex Service Cobras 4-2 after the singles, but the away side had other ideas, as they took the first two pairs with Darrell Webb 121, 125, 135, and Roy Parnham 137, 140; but the Liberal duo of Eric Hammond 121, 125, 137, and Terry Cox 137, 140, won the last pairs to get a draw.

League leaders Finnegans were away at Liberal Club, and sitting at three all after the singles, the away side took the first pairs to lead 5-3. But back came the Liberals to win the next and level the match, giving an all or nothing shoot out for the the last pairs. And it was Liberals’ Matt Reeson and D. Martin that kept their nerve to win the game and the match for the home side, a result that blows open the title race, this being Finnegans first defeat, despite Russ Millar 125, 134, 180.

Ex Service, in second spot, had the chance to move back to the top of the table, but their opponents Seaview Raiders were having none of it as they dished out a 7-5 beating, with Geoff Poulter and Steve Gillings getting the last pairs decider. Kev Brady 120, 140, and Pete Jarvis 125, 140, were the top scorers for the Ex Service.

Chatsworth took on the Vine and were sitting pretty after the singles with a 4-2 lead. They then won two of the pairs to rattle off an 8-4 win.

The final game in this division saw Cricket Club and Welcome Hillbillies meet, and it was a pillar to post win for the home side as they raced into a 5-1 lead and eventually ran out 9-3 winners with Richard Fuller 121, 140, and S. Bourke 110 finish. A Lowis 135, 140, was on target for the Hillbillies

Pro Am Qualifier number two took place at the Ex Service Club and although a small field, it didn’t lack quality.

Early skirmishes saw Martin Bell beat Terry Cox, Eric Hammond beat Dave Manson by the same score, Chris Fletcher hit 2 x 180 and a 139 finish, but found Eric too good in the semi-final. David Tuplin was another to hit 180, but again fell at the semi-final stage to Martin Bell.

Martin took on Eric Hammond in the final and won it 2-0. Well done to Martin who will take his place on November 6 to play with one of the pros.
