Dinnington kids are Canada bound

A GROUP of lucky Dinnington Comprehensive students are on the verge of a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Canada, after raising over £33,000.

The students, who leave on Monday, will visit Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, taking on the locals in hockey, football, rugby, netball and rounders.

Race nights, bag packing and various sponsorship schemes have helped them raise money to cover the cost of their adventure, and headteacher Paul Blackwell is proud of the youngsters and trip leader Dana Abdulkarim.

He said: “From the day the trip was proposed I have been impressed by the drive and energy devoted to ensuring that money was raised and its organisation was outstanding.”

“It has been a truly collaborative effort lead by Miss Abdulkarim, but with great support from students and parents.”

“As representatives of the school and the wider Dinnington community this will be an experience of a lifetime.”

Girls Tour Captain Lauren Brown and netball captain Lauren Hobson are both raring to go.

The former said: “A massive thank you must go to Miss Abdulkarim, the staff, parents and public for helping us to ensure that this once in a lifetime opportunity happens.”

“I am so excited and can’t wait to get out there.”

And the latter added: “This is an amazing experience and something I’m never going to forget.”
