Double triumph for Scotter over Melrose

Melrose SSC are Gainsborough Bowls League championship favourites but in two knockout finals rivals Scotter One made them look ordinary.

In the Millennium Trophy at Marshalls, the Scotter One rink of Les Savage, John Kirman, and Ray Robinson, thrashed their opposition 32 – 4 and another rink led 20 – 1 but ended 27 – 14. The other two Melrose rinks could only look on helplessly and an impressive Scotter One won 80 – 45.

In the Knockout Shield at Beckingham, Melrose liked the slower conditions and had a slight lead for most of the match. They led by nine on one rink with the other three ending in draws. And as Melrose were ready to celebrate, Scotter overturned the lead and convincingly won 75 - 62.

Scotter One easily beat visitors Misterton 8 – 2 (107 – 57) but they lose ground by two points dropped that they can ill afford.
