Duo raising funds

WE start this week’s column with the news of two intrepid local anglers who are embarking on two fundraising events for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma appeal.

Roy Butterfield and Lee Godley, who many will know from their angling exploits with Hodthorpe WMC, have volunteered to do the Great North Run next month, on the banks of the River Tyne.

They are both looking for sponsorship and we are calling on the local angling community to back the lads in their pursuits.

They are also organising an open match for this worthy cause at the angling mecca of Lodge Farm on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August on the signal and lily ponds.

The entry fee for this event is £15 with tickets available from Roy himself or Bill at the fishery, Geoff at Gateford Angling, Greg at Worksop Angling Supplies and Max Tackle of Clowne.

The draw takes place at the on site cafe at 9am with fishing between 10am and 3.30pm.

With a prize raffle and a £100first prize it is a match to put in your diary.

For any more information contact Roy on 07702 511629.

On a different tack the anglers representing Worksop DAA in Division One of the Angling Trust on the New Junction canal finished a creditable 43rd out of 59 teams.

Glyn Brown was the best performer with 56 points, winning his sub section.

Josh Wilde also aquitted himself well with 45 points.

The team would like to thank Worksop Association for all their support and to Ken Ward Sports for supplying the squad with all their bait free of charge for the championships.

The Notts Police Constabulary are organising a fishing competition for children in the county aged between 10–17 years.

This event will be held at the Sherwood Forest Farm Park, Warsop on Thursday 1st September with the draw at 10am and fishing from 11am until 4pm.

Trophies and prizes will be on offer and entry is free to all but there are a limited number of places.
