She improved her placing at the Clumber Park Duathlon by 10 places on last year as she finished fourth overall.

The Clumber Park event was a GB age-group qualifier for the world and European duathlon championships and Grocock again qualified — meaning she is likely to represent Team GB at next year’s European showpiece.

Grocock has already qualified for this year’s European Championships and will run in Soria, Spain, in April.

The Clumber Park event consisted of a 10km run, a 40km bike ride and then a 5km run.

Grocock, sponsored by Britcon and OffThatCouch Fitness, improved her time by 12 minutes overall on last year, including taking 10 minutes of her previous bike leg time. Her overall time was two hours and 11 minutes.

After the first run Grocock was in the middle of the pack with the leading girls a few minutes in front.

But during the bike course she overtook all the leaders apart from the winner, posting the fastest female bike time of one hour and four minutes.

In the final run Grocock was passed towards the end of course, but she said her fourth place was a massive achievement.

The following day in the Gainsborough 10k, her time of 42.33 won her age category and earned 14th place overall.
