Finch frustrated by opponent's changed tactics

There was disappointment for Boston boxer, Harvey Elding, at the Earlsfield boxing show as his opponent had to withdraw due to a family bereavement.

However, Elding did get to box as C. James, of Earlsfield ABC, stood in as a replacement.

Unfortunately, the bout was only recognised as a skills bout, as the weights didn’t meet the requirements to box as a recognised bout. That did not stop the two fighters producing an exhibition to be proud off.

James was a lot taller than Elding and had a strong reach advantage. But Elding boxed well, continually getting underneath James’ jab and working to his opponent’s body. After the bout, the boxers earned rapturous applause from the enthusiastic audience.

Another Boston boxer, Adrianna Finch, was challenging Tania Dady of Earlsfield ABC. Dady, 19 years older than her opponent, is a current national champion and fellow England team mate.

Finch started strongly, landing some good shots in the first round. But in round two, Dady changed tactics and used her jab while constantly on the retreat. She also resorted to holding, making it difficult for Finch to land any clean punches.

At the end of the four round contest, the judges gave the win to the home boxer on a unanimous decision. There was a standing ovation for both boxers.

Adrianna is back in action in the Haringey Box Cup event at Alexandra Palace, London, which takes place over three days, June 17-19. Also taking part is Boston ABC club mate Tommy Upsall.
