First of Aegir Cycling Club’s reliability rides take place over 20 and 50 miles

After last weekend’s setback with snow, the first set of Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club’s reliability rides were held on Sunday with a choice of 20 miles, 50km, 50 miles or 75 miles for the nine riders.

A stiff north-west wind making riding difficult.

In the 20-mile rides Andy Clarke and Joe Nash chose category B (1 hour 30 minutes) and their times were 1-20.

Daniel Nicholson and Joe Smith (15) chose category C (1-45) and their times were 1-39.

Mike Seddon chose category D (2-30) and his time was 2-01 minute, so all the riders returned within their chosen times.

The route was from Portland Terrace and along Lea Road, Lea, Knaith Park, Upton, Heapham, Springthorpe, Corringham, Pilham, Blyton, Laughton and Morton before returning into Gainsborough along Ropery Road to finish back at Portland Terrace.

In the 50-mile rides Trevor Halstead, Matt Hindmarsh, Liam Hindmarsh (12) and Michael Dawson chose category C (four hours) and all the riders returned within their chosen time.

Trevor, Matt and Liam’s time was 3-28 and Michael’s time was 3-49.

The route took in Lea, Marton, Torksey, Laughterton, Newton-on-Trent, Besthorpe, Collingham, Langford, Winthorpe, Newark, South and North Muskham, Cromwell, Carlton-on-Trent, Sutton-on-Trent. Grassthorpe, Ragnall, Dunham-on-Trent, crossing Dunham Bridge and heading through Newton-on-Trent before retracing the outward route back to Portland Terrace.

On Saturday 25th February the club’s annual prize presentation dinner takes place at the Weston Rooms, Hickman Street, Gainsborough.

Sunday 26th February sees the reliability ride Two Bridges starting at 10am from 21 Portland Terrace.
