First home double header in 10 years for rugby men

The All Blacks took on Lincoln IV, while the Maori faced Market Rasen IV.

Anthony Goude told the Standard: “It was the first time in 10 years that both teams have played at home.”

“It was good for the club, and the dressing rooms were really buzzing.”

Both teams put outreasonably strong sides, but while the All Blacks won 55-7, the Maori suffered a 43-3 defeat.

The weather was awful and conditions for rugby were atrocious, but all the players came out to give it a go.

The All Blacks started like demons and dominated everything for the first 20 minutes.

But at 15-0 in front they switched off and let the visitors into the game, so much so that at half-time Lincoln had scored a converted try and were still very much in the match at 15-7.

The half-time team talk shook the All Blacks back into action and they totally dominated the second half.

Tries were run in and the All Blacks were back in good spirits.

Gainsborough scored nine tries in total.

Players going over for scores were Eliot Humphrey, Kyle Dean, Ross Duncan, Andy Turner, Daniel Chadwick, James Taylor and All Blacks debutant Kieran Burn secured himself a hat-trick.

Man of the Match was Nathan Gardner at scrum-half, wh has proved himself to be an excellent half-back this season and is linking the side together from his position at the back of the scrum.

The Maori came up against a very experienced Market Rasen fourth team, who had an outstanding youngster at number 10 who dominated the game.

Gainsborough worked hard but couldn’t stop the Rasen side from dominating

Craig Woodhead kicked Gainsborough’s only points, these came from a first half penalty.

Ryan Bradford was named Man of the Match.
