First trophy of the year claimed by senior pair

Keith Smith and John Hallgarth claimed the first trophy of the season, becoming DTH Senior Doubles winners.

They finished second in the round robin format to qualify for the final, alongside Rob Vaughan and Alex Olliffe who topped the group, dropping only one point along the way and beating the eventual winners 31-26.

In the final, which was one game up to 31, Smith and Hallgarth led 15-10 before Vaughan and Olliffe found themselves 25-23 and 27-25 ahead.

But back came Smith and Hallgarth to deservedly win the game and the title 31-29.

In Division Two two results showed that a number of teams could win the title.

DTH Redlands Joggers took on Stanley Street B and upset the form book with a fabulous 7-3 win.

Captain Dennis Learad led with an impressive hat-trick, supported by Matthew Mudd who won two games and Lewis Comley who took one.

For the visitors Paul Linfield registered a double, with Kyle McIntosh adding a win.

Mudd and Comley took the doubles 3-1.

The win moves The Joggers into second on sets won, two points behind Stanley Street.

Ryton Park Eagles were also challenging for top spot but lost to Manton Sports.

For the Sports side Alan Wilson registered a treble, John Lowde added two, Smith won one and teamed up with Lowde to win the doubles and secure a 7-3 victory.

DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys maintained their position at the top of Division One with a 9-1 win over MBE, thanks to hat-tricks from Steve Walker, Steve Fox and Richard Wesley.

In the doubles Mick Bell and Mark Stanfield became the first pairing to ever beat Steve Walker and Richard Wesley in a league game.

DTH Redlands Roosters and Global Marble A fought out a 5-5 draw as Kalpesh Bhatt won three, supported by Kerry Harvey’s two wins.

She retired hurt against Tom McIntosh before the Rooster’s Rick Harris and McIntosh took the doubles.
