Fly fishing expert

There are two items of interest for the fly casters amongst us this week, starting with an expert on our doorstep.

Chris Watson, of Worksop, is a name many of you will recognise from previous columns thanks to his exploits at Lakeside fishery and his first attempt at trying for the England river fly fishing team.

Last year he missed out by just one point, which is an amazing achievement for a first time out.

Whereas most coaching sessions last just a few hours Chris specialises in full day sessions specifically for no more than two participants at a time to ensure that you will receive a more personal experience.

An added bonus is that Chris knows the Lakeside trout lake like the back of his hand, with his best return standing at 76 fish in a single session at the Ranskill venue.

For further information you can contact Chris on 07790 259392.

The other bit of news is that Toft Newton fly fishery reopens for game fishing this weekend, back to normal on Saturday from 7.30am.

Pricing will be the same as 2011, with a new reduced time/price catch and release option.

Stocking weekly and providing great value sport once again, with fresh fish going in towards the end of the week, they should be in for a decent start.

Prices are available on request from Jason Foster on 01673 878453 or at www.toftnewton.com.

On the coastal front Jack Wilson took two quality cod from Spurn Road on a short solo session last week as well as some quality whiting, this is the news that we have been waiting for and with a more northerly direction the possibilities are looking excellent.
