There were a few 'raised eyebrows' in the Boston United squad when Craig Elliott announced they would be training on Christmas Eve.

However, the Pilgrims boss doesn't want to leave anything to chance as his side prepare to host Alfreton Town on Boxing Day (KO 3pm).

The club normally trains on Thursday evenings, but the squad will meet up in the morning tomorrow.

"There were a few raised eyebrows as I'm getting them in on Christmas Eve, but it's important we have a little session and prepare properly for a big game on Boxing Day," Elliott said.

"It'll be early morning so they can spend the rest of day with family as we look forward to some tough games in the next few weeks."

United will use tomorrow's session to run the rule over injury doubts Andi Thanoj and Jay Rollins.

Midfielder Connor Dimaio doesn't mind being called in on Christmas Eve, and hopes to make the most of it.

"It's most delightful, I'm going to wear my Christmas jumper," he joked.

"It will be a good training session. It's the best job in the world so we can't complain."

Boxing Day action will yet again mean players having to watch what they eat and drink as they want to be in top shape to face the Reds.

But do the management staff have to abstain from the booze?

"No," Elliott said with a smile. "I need that to get to sleep in my job."
