Long Eaton were looking to use the wind to their advantage, but couldn’t get the ball into the box for a clear chance.

With another free kick put wide by Blaine Hancock, a Retford set piece was also put wide by Brett Lucas, the sides went into the break level with Retford looking to capitalise in the second half with the wind in their backs.

Richard Sennett was prowling the touchline making his feelings known as Retford were denied another decision by the referee, but his Retford side continued to frustrate as they couldn’t get the ball into the final third for a clear cut chance.

There was a tiny bit of excitement to warm up the crowd with Thompson going close, then Andy Walkden meeting a corner at the far post that was somehow the wrong side of the post.

The game was eventually won with a single goal from Long Eaton on 81 minutes.

A break on the counter saw the ball played out to the right side of the box, the ball sent in low had Barford beaten at full stretch and gave Matt Savage an easy chance at the far post to find the target and score the goal only two minutes after his introduction to the game.

Retford tried to find the leveller in the final nine minutes, Richard Medcalf somehow denied by the acrobatics of McCormack as he tipped the ball away with his left hand. This is the last game for Retford until 28th December, away at Bridlington Town.
