Bassetlaw Boys show early promise

BASSETLAW Boys showed great promise early on in their first outing of the season, before a lapse in concentration cost them.

The district side hosted Gainsborough Boys and drew 2-2 at Costhorpe.

Alex Wonham and Cameron Harper gave them a two-goal first half lead, but they lost focus in the final minute and conceded two goals, allowing the Gainsborough side to snatch a draw with virtually the last kick of the match.

The boys meet for a further trial at Costhorpe on Saturday.

IN the schools leagues, Division One is proving to be a close affair, each school tasting both victory and defeat so far.

With all three outstanding matches of the first half of the season in the coming week Prospect Hill are the leaders.

Sir Edmund Hillary broke their duck when a strike by Tristan O’Fee earned them their first points in a single goal defeat of St John’s, while two goals from Carr Hill’s Alex Wonham equalised two from Redland’s Jack Tomlinson.
