The Wongers host Keelby United on Saturday (KO 3pm), looking to build on the weekend’s 2-0 victory at Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League rivals Appleby Frodingham.

“We’re everso pleased to get the first win of the season, it was our aim to keep a clean sheet and, more importantly, not give ourselves an uphill battle,” said joint manager Ross.

“We played with fluidity, high intensity off the ball and we knew if we worked hard in units then we’d have half a chance. I thought we were full value for the win on Saturday.

“We hope to go on a run now. It wasn’t panic stations, but when you lose a football match you over-think everything and think you’ve got problems. You come away with a win and you feel you have a good chance of achieving things.

“It’s about looking at things logically. Had we made progress from the previous Saturday (a 4-1 defeat at Immingham)? Yes, we were a different team.

“If we can build a run it gives people confidence.”

Ben Fidling netted a chest-knee-volley screamer for Town on Saturday with Luke Blondel adding a late second in a game where the hosts had Tom Wilson sent off.

Horncastle handed debuts to teenage goalkeeper Charlie Wilkinson and Corey Newman on Saturday.

Wilkinson, a member of the Boston United youth set up, has joined on loan from Harrowby United.

Newman played under Ross at Pinchbeck United and has further UCL Premier experience with Boston Town and Sleaford Town.

“Corey’s a good ball player and Charlie made two fantastic saves to earn his clean sheet,” Ross added. “He adapted himself well.”
