The Boston Saturday League has been declared null and void.

The decision to end the season and expunge results was made during last night’s management committee meeting.

“The FA had asked us to consider expunging results to remain in line with the rest of the National League System and support consistency across the game,” chairman Roger Gell said.

“The management committee decided that the competition would immediately end and all results expunged.

“These are unprecedented circumstances and we appreciate all the endeavours of clubs, players, and referees throughout the season.

“We understand there will be disappointment for some teams but I hope they can accept the decision has been made due to a difficult situation.

“The league have been supported through the process by the Lincolnshire FA.”

The FA had already brought an end to all football from steps three to seven of the National League System, but offered local leagues the opportunity to decide how to end their campaigns.

The two options were to halt the season and expunge all results or to work out an average points per game outcome which would include awarding league titles, promotions and relegations.

“Regarding the points per game option, it would be difficult as there was still 120 league fixtures to play and a large differential between the amount of games teams had played,” Mr Gell added.

“Some clubs had not played each other so it wouldn’t be a fair reflection of the season.”

Mr Gell said the decision made by the management committee was ‘conclusive’.

As a result, teams will kick off next season in the same positions they began the campaign which has now ended.

Registration forms have been sent to clubs ahead of next season, while two new teams have also shown an interest in joining.

“Now we are all looking forward to next season and the return of local football,” Mr Gell added.

“We are all looking forward to football returning, but only when it is safe to do so.”

A total of 48 teams kicked off the season.
