BOSTON SATURDAY LEAGUE: Round-up

BB Insure Willoughby Cup, round two

There was no upset at Park United where Swineshead were the visitors and, although the home side from Division Two gave a spirited performance, there was no denying the Premier side who ran out 6-0 winners.

Two own goals helped Swineshead on their way with Richard Barker also netting a brace of goals.

Bert Snaith and Kieran Rose completed the scoring.

The big tie of the day took place at Wyberton Reserves where the title-chasers entertained close rivals Spilsby Town, and it was the visitors who earned the bragging rights following an impressive 3-0 away win.

Dan Cobb, Liam Papworth and Adam Dales struck the crucial goals.

Old Leake centre back Ash Jackson was again on the scoresheet for his side when he headed in the opener just before the interval against Fishtoft.

In an evenly contested first half, the deadlock was finally broken when Adam Tempest sent over a corner and there was Jackson at the far post to nod home.

Another header from another Tempest corner made it 2-0 in the second half with Will Gosling finding the net on this occasion before Fishtoft pulled a goal back when Neil Allen got on the end of a free-kick.

Old Leake continued the heading theme soon afterwards when substitute Curtis Revell made it 3-1 with a header from a free-kick.

Fishtoft were not quite finished and they reduced the arrears to 3-2 before Revell had the final say with Old Leake’s fourth.

Woodhall Spa United caused a bit of an upset when the Divison One side, languishing in the bottom half of the table, put Premier strugglers Kirton Town out of the competition.

Town could have opened the scoring after 10 minutes but the crossbar came to Woodhall’s rescue.

Jack Draper returned to the home line-up and he fired home a superbly struck opener from 18 yards out.

Andy Money hit Woodhall’s second goal when his shot from the edge of the box squirmed its way into the net.

Kirton did pull a goal back and Woodhall had to be at their most stubborn in defence during the final 10 minutes as they found themselves on the back foot but they held out for a fine home win.

Coningsby hit Pointon for six at home with striker, Shaun Boothby hitting four of the goals.

Andrew Chapman and an own goal completed the scoring for the home side.

Pointon replied through Ian Jacquest and Ollie Cooper.

Taylors Garages Premier Division

There was only one top flight game, where a resurgent Ruskington Rovers continued their move away from the relegation zone with an impressive 6-2 home win against Heckington Millers.

Mitchell Gorman and Sam Jackson both struck two goals apiece, while Ashley Farmer and new signing Ronaldo Pereira also got on the scoresheet.

The Millers had found themselves 5-1 down at half time and although they improved greatly in the second half the game was, by then, well out of reach.

The Heckington goals came from Sean Jenkinson and Liam Tunstall.

Taylors Peugeot Division One

The two games in Division Two involved two of the favourites for promotion, with Boston College and Leverton taking massive steps forward with huge victories.

Boston College hit lowly Sutterton for 10 with Jamie Dawson hitting four of his side’s goals.

Dawson couldn’t quite match the previous week’s lightning start when he scored what arguably was one of the fastest goals in league history at Woodhall Spa.

That three-second strike from the kick-off was never going to be repeated last Saturday but their was no arguing that he was going to get on the scoresheet once again.

Nathan Rivett grabbed a hat-trick whileTom Taylor helped himself to two goals in the big home win.

Reece Young hit the other College goal.

Leverton made short work of their home game with FC Wrangle, smashing eight goals without reply.

Dom Goddard continued his hot scoring streak by scoring six of his side’s goals and the striker even allowed himself the luxury of missing from the penalty spot.

Joe Daubney scored with a thunderous header while Nathan Rippin struck the other with a free-kick in the 8-0 rout.

Danny Goddard orchestrated proceedings in the midfield and the play-maker was ably assisted by the busy Bobby Smith.

Taylors Ford Division Two

Callum Cheetham hit two goals for AFC Tetford in their 3-2 home win against Billinghay Reserves, while Nathan Wright grabbed the other goals.

Billinghay replied through Lee hare and Adam Underwood-Harley.

Rob Rowlatt also hit two goals for Pointon Reserves as they saw off the challenge of Eastern European FC at home.

Michael Rowlatt struck the other Pointon goal in a 3-2 victory.

Fishtoft Reserves entertained promotion favourites Railway Athletic and both sides had to contend with some awful conditions as the pitch got steadily more boggy as it thawed out.

Railway got off to an express start scoring inside five seconds to go 1-0 up thanks to Nicky Frost following a superb assist from Liam Nimmo on his return from injury.

Veteren Steve Appleby, deputising at right back, then stormed forward on the overlap and his drivien ball across goal found the net to make it 2-0.

Fishtoft pulled one back just after half time to make it 2-1 before Nimmo then completed his return to the side after four months out with a goal, a left footed strike from the edge of the box.

Fishtoft then pulled it back again after the Railway goalkeeper fluffed his lines in the mud and the miss-kick let presented the opening.

Railway regained their two-goal cushion with an excellent goal from Curtis Yeatman, curling home from outside the box only for Fishtoft to ensure a tighter than expected finale by lobbing the Railway keeper.

Railway stood firm in the final stages to protect their slender 4-3 victory and secure three crucial points.

Taylors Vauxhall Division Three

Spilsby Town remain top of the table following a storming 7-3 home win against rivals Wyberton A, with Travis Herberts and Dan Smith doing most of the damage for Town with both claiming hat-tricks.

The other Spilsby goal came from Matthew Upton.

Wyberton hit back through Michael Reeson, Jack Reeson and Jason Allen.

James O’Boyle hit both of The Pointon A goals in their 2-0 home win against Northgate Olympic.

The three points keeps Pointon hot on the heels of the leaders.

Benington Reserves heaped more misery upon Boston Athletic when they recorded a 8-1 home win.

Sam Reed, George Dix and Jordan Histed all scored two goals apiece although Reed squandered a golden chance to have claimed a hat-trick when he missed from the penalty spot.

Lewis Mundt, who was also on target, also missed a penalty while the other goal came from Danny Gatenby.
