BOSTON SATURDAY LEAGUE: Round-up

Josh Whittam had given Skegness the lead before Spilsby hit back in the second half to book their place in the next round following second-half strikes from Tom Watson, Michael Hardy and Lee Boulton.

Old Leake had a routine 6-0 away win at Woodhall Spa United, hitting three goals in each half.

Callum Lawe struck first from a free-kick before Scott Mackay added a second from the penalty spot after Kane Watson had his shirt pulled.

Watson grabbed the third before the break and it was Watson again in the second half to make it 4-0 before Callum Lawe ventured forward from his central defensive position to force home the fifth following a goalmouth scramble.

Patrick Kacirek had the final say when he netted the sixth and final goal.

Referee Mark Thomson handled the game well and contributed to both sides palying the game in a superb spirit.

First Division Old Doningtonians pulled off the shock of the day with a 3-0 home win against Premier outfit Coningsy.

They produced their performance despite having leading goal-scorer Chris Wing missing from their line-up through injury.

Coningsby, also missing some key players due to a wedding celebration, had no answer to the Dons, who held a 2-0 lead at half-time thanks to goals from Andy Slaughter and Ollie Gedney.

A second-half goal from Jordan Watson sealed a great win for Old Dons.

The other tie between Friskney and Swineshead Institute was postponed due to a waterlogged playing surface.

Both the scheduled matches in the Taylors Garages Premier Division were postponed after Fishtoft and Kirton Town decided that their pitches were unfit due to heavy rainfall.

In the Taylors Peugeot Division One, two goals from Reece Young kept Boston College on course for promotion when they defeated Swineshead Reserves.

The 2-0 victory sees the College maintain their place in top spot although Leverton do have two games in hand.

Swineshead’s cause wasn’t helped by the sending-off of Josh Smith.

A Troy Ayton penalty was enough to give Freiston all three points in a closely-fought 1-0 home win against Fosdyke.

This game heralded the end to Fosdyke’s league campaign and it finished with a hotly-contested game that was not without controversy.

The two teams were very evenly matched and a ferocious battle ensued in all areas of the pitch.

Goalscoring opportunities were few and far between in the opening exchanges as a long-range effort from Ant Slater dipped over the bar and a Frieston effort was hit straight at the keeper.

The first of a number of controversial incidents livened things up right at the start of the second half.

Leon Marsh, leading the line, found himself with just one defender to beat before rolling the ball forward for James Munn to run onto and blast home.

The linesman’s flag was raised and the goal disallowed, much to Fosdyke’s dismay and, just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, Frieston went down the other end and saw a penalty awarded (and despatched) when their target man striker was felled in the box.

Fosdyke’s battling qualities saw them push hard for an equaliser.

Ant Slater went very close when a dipping cross from a Ben Parker free-kick was spectacularly volleyed goalwards, only to find the keeper who pulled off a fantastic save.

The game continued to go from end to end and Fosdyke gave everything but just could not find a breakthrough.

It was Frieston who came closest when they had a very good penalty shout turned down, but the referee waved play on.

There was one final twist to the game in the closing minutes when centre back Michael Beauchamp went on a surging run into the heart of the Frieston defence, ending up with a one-on-one against the home side’s keeper.

Michael Beauchamp got to the ball first and poked it towards the goal and Leon Marsh, like every good striker should, followed in to smash home what looked like an equaliser - but yet again the linesman’s flag went up and they were denied a point.

Heated words ensued but the goal was disallowed and the 1-0 scoreline remained in Frieston’s favour.

Park United were amongst the goals at Pointon Reserves in the Taylors Ford Division Two, with Alex Limb doing most of the damage for the visitors.

The goals came at regular intervals in a storming 8-0 victory, with Limb lashing in four of his side’s goals.

Chris Wright (two), Chris Wray and Ben Dean completed the scoring in a comfortable away win.

Sibsey went down 4-2 at Swineshead A where Dean Seiner hit all four of his side’s goals.

Railway Athletic took another step towards promotion with a 5-0 home win against Billinghay Reserves.

The win saw Railway close the gap at the top to two points, but they came up against a goalkeeper in fine form as, during the first half, he made fantastic save after fantastic save to keep Billinghay in the game.

The deadlock was finally broken by a fabulous 25-yard free kick which Toni Pascu curled superbly into the top corner.

Railway continued to create chances at regular intervals during the first half and the lead was doubled after the keeper had once again pulled off a great save from Liam Nimmo, but the ball found its way back to the feet of Nimmo, who made no mistake with the rebound.

The second half carried on much like the first period with Railway creating chances, and Nimmo doubled his tally with a good finish following a great team move.

Substitute Conor Massam then got his first Railway goal after a great ball was played in by Damien Gibbons for Luke Wilson, whose attempted control laid the ball on a plate for Massam to fire home at the back post.

Railway added a fifth late on when Nimmo broke into the box and looked certain to complete his hat-trick, but he unselfishly squared to Chris Moore at the back post for an easy tap in.

Holbeach Bank earned a well deserved point away at Eastern European FC following a 2-2 draw.

Ben Crane and Stefan Belakov hit the crucial goals for the Bank.

In the Taylors Vauxhall Division Three, Boston Titans striker Matt Howden continued his rich goal-scoring vein with all of his side’s goals in a 3-2 home win against Old Doningtonians Reserves.

The game started off at a slow pace with the wind having a drastic effect, blowing against the Titans, and the ball was being cleared and coming straight back.

The Dons soon utilised this to their advantage when a free-kick from a harmless position blew straight into the Titans net.

The rain had made the pitch a mud-fest with players on both sides slipping everywhere.

The pressure from the Dons remained relentless and, from a corner again assisted by the wind, the ball ended up in the Titans net for 2-0.

Finally, after a period of scrappy play, the ball found its way to Mike McPhail who threaded it through to the in-form Howden to coolly slot home to make the half-time score 2-1.

The game continued in the same vein in the second half with the Titans clearing the ball in the hope that Howden would fasten onto it but the wind was blowing it straight to the keeper.

The Dons, for all their possession, were not threatening the goal at all, often being broken up by the determined Matthew Nundy and Ian Keal.

The game seemed to be petering out to nothing near the end until Howden grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck.

Firstly, a ball over the top from Luke Everett sent Howden in on goal and, although the keeper saved his initial shot, Howden’s reactions were lightning fast in stabbing home the rebound.

Then from a Dons kick-off they were robbed by Ryan Bristow, who looked up and saw the tireless Howden darting through a crowds of players to fasten onto the through ball and finish in style to send the Titans’ Camp into scenes of celebration.

Ciaran Cullen’s two goals helped Northgate Olympic defeat Friskney Reserves 3-2 at home.

Robert Spencer grabbed the other Northgate goal while Greg Brown and Matthew Goy replied for Friskney.

The big top-of-the-table clash at Pointon A saw promotion rivals Spilsby Town settle for a point following a 1-1 draw.

Joe Davies hit the Pointon goal while Travis Herberts replied for Town.

Jason Cade and Chris Lawson hit the match-winning goals for Benington Reserves when they came away from Leverton Reserves with maximum points following a hard-fought 2-1 away win.

Both teams wished to express special thanks Dan Fox who gratefully stepped in as referee after the appointed match official failed to show and the stand-in had an excellent game in the middle.

Leverton Reserves drew first blood when they broke forward and some good wing play resulted in Dom Goddard slotting the ball home.

Both sides continued to have the odd chance with Benington managing to get men behind the ball when the home side threatened and the Benington attacks were thwarted by Leverton’s young debutant Conner Eyes, who was performing well in the home goal.

Benington continued to push in the second half, with Jamie Lawson controlling the game from midfield and, as the game dragged on, Leverton were punished for their deep defending and the visitors equalised when a loose ball fell invitingly on the edge of the area.

Soon afterwards, Benington went ahead with what proved to be a deserved winner when the same senario happened again and they finished well to turn the game on its head and take the three points.

The match between Wyberton A and FC Hammers was postponed because of an unfit pitch at the Causeway.
