BOSTON SATURDAY LEAGUE: Round-up

Taylors Garages Premier Division

The big clash of the day at leaders Spilsby Town saw the match settled by a single goal and resulted in Swineshead Institute return home with all three points.

Guy Mantle’s matchwinner was enough to give the visitors a hard-earned victory.

This was Spilsby Town’s first defeat of the season.

Skegness Town Reserves produced a determined defensive display to keep Benington at bay and complete a Premier Division double after a 2-0 success at Wainfleet Road.

The visitors dominated for long periods, but some superb last-ditch defending and inspired goalkeeping laid the foundations for Skegness’ success which came courtesy of second-half strikes from Will Britton and Ben Etches.

Rhys Cox came closest for Benington with a header which rattled the home crossbar while Danny Maddison had a late effort disallowed for offside.

Fishtoft started slowly at Billinghay Athletic and were duly punished by the home side who stormed into a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Fishtoft gave themselves a glimmer of hope when two goals from Jimmy Brittain pulled Fishtoft level, but Billinghay responded with two further goals of their own to run out 4-2 winners.

The Billinghay goals came from Thomas Bullimore, Adam Brett, Kris Coussens and Ed Robinson.

Coningsby’s impressive run continued with a 7-1 home win against Kirton Town.

Shaun Boothby proved a real thorn in Town’s side with a four-goal haul while Tom Sewell grabbed two.

Andy Chapman completed the scoring for Coningsby who are the Premier’s current form team.

The half time score stood at 6-0 and the game as a contest was well and truly over by then, although Kirton did grab a consolation goal.

Old Leake were also amongst the goals when they thrashed an under-strength Pointon side 9-0 at home.

Patrick Kacirek hit the opener after just five minutes and the same player weighed in with the final goal when he squeezed home a rebound after his penalty was pushed back out to him.

In between, Pointon only enjoyed a decent period during the first half hour, in which, they squandered a good chance but once Old Leake hit their second goal through Kane Watson the writing was on the wall.

Adam Tempest made it 3-0 before Scott Mackay took centre stage completing his hat-trick either side of the interval.

Mackay added another later on and James Leafe cut in from the flank before firing home the eighth.

Kacirek had the final say with his second goal of the game with his rebound from his spot-kick.

Heckington Millers produced a much-improved performance last Saturday when they travelled to face a Wyberton side who were second in the league table.

The Millers took to the field with just the bare 11 outfield players so knew they were in for a difficult afternoon.

Both sides battled away in tough wet and windy conditions and it was the visitors who struck first after 15 minutes when a well-worked move ended with a bullet-like header from Dominic Kew.

Wyberton were wasteful in front of goal and they were made to pay for their misses when Heckington went 2-0 up after a delightful free-kick from Kew found the net.

Just before the break Wyberton pulled a goal back when they scored a scrappy goal to make it 2-1.

The second half started the same as the first with both teams battling through the mud and Wyberton equalised midway through the second period from a corner kick.

Shortly afterwards the home side went in front for the first time in the match to make it 3-2.

The Millers, however, kept their heads and they bravely levelled the scores when Kew stroked home a fine effort from the edge of the box to complete his hat trick.

Wyberton’s goals came from Reece Beauchamp, Liam Shinn and Shane Brackenbury.

Taylors Peugeot Division One

Fosdyke endured a very frustrating afternoon culminating in a 3-2 home defeat against promotion-seeking Friskney.

Fosdyke knew they were in for a tough time when they had to take on their opponents without a recognised keeper. 

Leon Marsh, more used to knocking the goals in at the other end rather than keeping them out, volunteered to don the jersey and he started well, commanding his area and pulling off a vital save.

It was the visitors who were the strongest team of the two early on and Fosdyke were restricted to quick breaks down the flanks.

Fosdyke looked to be surviving the first half until two farcical goals saw them suddenly trail at half time by 2-0.

The first saw a fluffed clearance somehow trickle in and when a second squirmed through a sea of legs it had a feeling of one of those days for the home side.

The second period, however, was a completely different game and although Friskney extended their lead with a strike from a free-kick, it was Fosdyke who dominated and should really have got something from the game. 

Matthew Scott was unfortunate to see his spectacular volley ruled out as someone had stood offside during the build-up and, while they were aggrieved at the injustice, they did then enjoy a slice of good fortune when a penalty was awarded for handball that may have seemed harsh on the defender.

In no mood for sympathy, Matt Bates bustled the net and the comeback was on.

It was Friskney’s turn to be restricted to breakaway chances and they could have added to their lead but for some woeful finishing.

Matt Bates went close again for Fosdyke when his turn and strike struck the post though a second goal was grabbed with minutes left when James Munn cut in from the right and hit a cracker that left the keeper grasping thin air.

Unfortunately for Fosdyke, it was too little too late and they were left empty-handed at 3-2 to Friskney, who’s goals came from Greg Brown, who grabbed two, and Victor Sibert.

Woodhall Spa United hit six goals away from home at Sutterton following a 5-1 victory.

The visitor’s goals came from Alex Abraham, Dave Richardson, Alex Coupland, Jackson Draper, Chris Holland and Matthew Sargeant.

Taylors Ford Division Two

Nathan Wright struck all four goals for AFC Tetford in their 4-2 home win against Holbeach Bank.

The striker’s impressive haul kept his side on top of the table.

Alex Limb was also amongst the goals once again when his hat-trick helped Park United to an impressive 7-1 home win against Pointon Reserves.

A strike from the edge of the area from Tom Limb saw Park take the lead and Res this was the catalyst for Park to play some excellent passing football resulting in a goal each of the strikers, Alex Limb and Ben Liu, giving Park a 3 0 half-time lead.

After the break Pointon put Park under pressure and pulled a goal back before Park jumped back into life with further goals from Declan Wilson, Ben Liu and two more from Alex Limb to clinch a comfortable 7 1 victory.

Railway Athletic continue to close the gap at the top following a 5-0 away win at Eastern European FC.

Railway took the lead through a Toni Pascu penalty at the second time of asking after his first effort was ordered to be retaken due to encroachment.

Railway continued to batter the European goal with chance after chance but several good saves kept the game alive.

Early in the second half Railway extended their lead through goals from Curtis Yeatman, and two from Nicky Frost in quick succession and end the game as a contest.

In the final minutes substitute Danny Woods then scored the goal of the game with a fine strike from 25 yards out going in via the crossbar.

Billinghay Athletic Reserves came away from Graves Park with maximum points following a 4-3 away win at Kirton Town Reserves.

Liam Willows, Charlie Gilbert, Aaron Luther and Bradley Walker hit the crucial goals for the visitors.

Two games were lost - one to the weather and one through a lack of players as Sibsey’s pitch (versus Coningsby Reserves) was ruled unfit and Swineshead failed to raise enough players for their match against FC Kirton.

Taylors Vauxhall Division Three

Leverton Reserves started brightly at Friskney Reserves and some good spells of possession provided shooting chances, but none clear enough to trouble the Friskney keeper.

Both sides never seemed to shift gears however and the lack of clear chances remained during the first half.

The second half saw Leverton come out with more fire and their continued pressure paid off when substitute James Wright finished off a well-worked passing move.

Friskney rarely threatened an equaliser and it was Wright again, later in the second half, who scored his second following some slick midfield play from the away side.

Leverton continued to dominate in the midfield with Daniel Bourne, in particular, pulling the strings, and with minutes remaining, a goalmouth scramble was tucked away by James Wright who completed his hat trick and rounded off an impressive 3-0 win.

FC Hammers enjoyed a surprising 7-1 home win against fellow promotion-chasers, Pointon A with Liam Ingamells and Scott Bates grabbing two goals apiece.

The other Hammers’ strikes came from Kristian Taylor, Jace Snade and Zac Mitchell.

The other scheduled fixture in Division Three was postponed when it was ruled the Spalding Harriers pitch was unfit, leaving Northgate Olympic without a game.

Target Newspapers Challenge Cup

Leverton reached the Challenge Cup final for the first time with a thumping 7-0 away win at Freiston.

Dom Goddard unleashed a fierce drive into the net for the opener following a cross from Nathan Rippin inside the first two minutes.

Alex Lote then jinked his way into the box before drilling home the second and then the two sides can celled each other out for the remainder of the first half.

The second half was one-way traffic as the visitors took control and Dom Goddard and Alex Lote added further goals to their tallies.

Further strikes from Joe Daubney and Nathan Rippin were finished off by an unfortunate own goal to make the final score 7-0.

The other semi-final tie was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Wrangle, where they were due to meet Boston College.

Main Ridge Take Away Reserve Cup

The Main Ridge Take Away Reserve Cup final will be contested by Swineshead Reserves and Spilsby Town Reserves.

Swineshead had a 3-1 away win at Fishtoft Reserves thanks to goals from Callum Karpyszyn, Jack Houghton and Giles Favell.

Fishtoft had a poor start with two massive individual errors giving Swineshead two gifts, both tap- ins, into a empty net after defensive mix-ups.

Fishtoft did have a good spell after half an hour but missed three golden chances before another defensive error let in their opponents to go three up 10 minutes before the break and put an end to Fishtoft’s challenge.

Fishtoft did manage to pull a goal back in the second half through Lee Bradbury but poor finishing prevented any pressure being put on Swineshead who they went threw at a canter.

Jay Adams hit a hat-trick for Spilsby Town Reserves in their 4-2 home win against Old Doningtonians Reserves.

Dan Smith grabbed the other Town goal.

The Dons replied through Wayne Foster, who hit both of their goals.

BB Insure Willoughby Cup

Chris Wing helped himself to six of The Old Doningtonians’ goals in their 8-3 home win against Mareham United.

Jordan Watson and an own goal completed the scoring for The Dons in this round two clash.
