Boston Town are laying the foundations for success - both on and off the pitch.

United Counties League Premier Division football may have been on hold since March, but the Poachers have been busy preparing for when the game can return, with manager Gary Edgley hoping work being done at the stadium can help turn the club into a real force.

A September-October start date was put forward as the most likely scenario for the 2020-21 campaign to kick off when clubs from steps 5 and 6 of the National League system held discussions with the Football Association on Friday.

But until anything becomes official, Town are keeping busy behind the scenes - working on the DWB Stadium an pitch and talking to targets.

Manager Gary Edgley said: “We’ve got a whole group of players we’ve had from last season. We’ve spoken to everybody, nobody wants to go. Everyone wants to stay, which is fantastic

“It’s important to us to keep this very good, young squad together as much as possible and give us something to build on.

“We’re still looking to add four or five players. I know who we want to come, we’ve had preliminary chats with them and voiced our interest.

"We’ve had a chat of where we see ourselves as a club and where we want to go.”

While things are moving along on the playing front, it is down Tattershall Road where progress is most evident.

“As a club we’re literally concentrating on the ground,” Edgley added.

“We’ve had all the changing rooms, referee’s room, toilets, reserve changing rooms redone and redecorated.

“We’ve now got work done on the club house and the biggest thing is the pitch.”

The playing surface has been relaid, drained and treated and Edgley hopes that will give his side a greater advantage next season.

“It’s now being rolled and cut every three or four days so, within five to six weeks, it’ll be one of the best pitches in the league,” he added. “We’ve spent an awful lot of money, time and effort on it.

"The work the volunteers have done has been fantastic for us as a club.”

Edgley hopes the improved surroundings can help him attract his targets both this summer and further down the road, adding: “Good players want to play at good grounds.

“I’ve said before the clubs that are the benchmark for us have the facilities and pitches to start building success.

“This is another stepping stone for us to be where these clubs are.”
