As Boston United prepare to face title chasers York City, Craig Elliott has admitted he is envious of the time the Minstermen have to prepare for matches.

York, like recent opponents Kidderminster Harriers, are among a handful of full-time sides in a predominantly semi-professional National League North.

And Elliott believes his side deserve particular praise for the way they are holding their own against a number of professional teams.

Asked if he’d prefer to work with his squad on a daily basis, Elliott said: “Without a doubt.

“The hardest part of my job is that you get lads one-and-a-half, maybe two hours tops on a Thursday.

“You want to do loads of things in training. You want to work on shape and it’s difficult to cram it all in.

“Like I said, these teams have got all week to do that, so they should be better than most teams in this league.”
