Boston United 'got a lot' out of Halifax draw - Craig Elliott

Craig Elliott left The Shay feeling his Boston United side 'got a lot' out of Saturday's friendly against FC Halifax Town.

Jordans Thewlis and Burrow netted in the second half as the Pilgrims fought back from 2-2 for a draw against their National League hosts.

"It was a really good friendly, we got a lot out of it," Elliott said.

"It was a really competitive game and we got caught out in the opening 20 minutes. We were in friendly mode and they were a lot more competitive and well organised."

But after United got a foothold in the game things evened out, with more vital minutes for some squad members who have been out of action since last season ended in March.

"A few players, you can tell, need high tempo games, they haven't had it for six to seven months," Elliott continued.

"The lads who have been with me in the play-offs and Jordan Burrow are slightly ahead in terms of minutes on the pitch.

"The first half we were very good going forward, it could have been 5-3, 6-3 at half time, there were chances at both ends - far too open for my liking.

"But second half we had a lot more strength and structure to us and last 30 minutes we dominated and perhaps should have won.

"Halifax are a very good team, they had a good season last season and have recruited well."
