Boston United have launched a donations scheme as they look to secure promotion via the National League North play-offs.

Clubs still taking part in this season's competition will have to foot the costs of salaries, hosting matches and regular COVID-19 testing, among other expenses.

As matches are played behind closed doors teams will not have their usual match day revenue to help prop them up.

With that in mind United are asking supporters for pledges to help with their promotion push.

"Clearly the club's finances have been decimated by the events of past few months but the absolute aim this season was to leave York Street on a high, with promotion to the National League," chairman David Newton told bufc.co.uk

"So when the play-offs became a possibility, we felt that we had to give the players, the management team and, of course, the fans the opportunity to keep that dream alive.

"The costs are considerable but we could not deny giving everyone the excitement of the play-offs - and the possibility of promotion.

"I understand how difficult these times are for everyone but if anyone can help out, that would be great. If donations exceed the play-off costs, the balance would go into Craig's (Elliott, manager) playing budget for the coming season.

"It has been a fantastic season already, so I hope we can all help the team with this final push."

Anyone who donates will receive a personal letter of thanks from Elliott and all contributions will be acknowledged within the matchday programme that the club are intending to produce for the play-off semi-final.

They club also says that 'supporters donating will also be entered into a 'money-cannot-buy' prize draw, which will be redeemable when spectators are allowed back into stadiums (hopefully in time for the 2020-2021 season).'
