Boston United make a point at leaders Gloucester City

Boston United picked up a point at National League North leaders Gloucester City - in a game where neither side could break the deadlock.

There wasn’t the same cheering and back-slapping after the goalless draw at League One Rochdale in the FA Cup - exactly a year ago today - but it was still a decent point for the Pilgrims, which sees them move up a place to 12th In the table with up to six games in hand on rivals.

Craig Elliott hinted he would make changes to the side which lost 2-1 at Fylde on Saturday, and his team sheet saw Joe Leesley handed his first start and Andi Thanoj also return to the starting line-up as Fraser Preston and Paul Green dropped to the bench.

The first half saw both sides cancel Each other with little goalmouth action.

After the interval United keeper Ross Fitzsimons was called upon to react quickly and clutch the ball on his line after an effort was deflected off Luke Shiels.

Former Alex Whittle then dragged an effort wife from a good position after cutting in from the right hand side at New Meadow Park.

With 70 minutes played Pilgrims sub Jordan Thewlis looked to be clear through but crashed his effort well wide of the mark as United created their best opportunity of the evening.

As both sides pushed for a winner further shooting chances were wasted.

Tiger Tommy O’Sullivan fired well wide with a clear sight of goal while at the other end Mitch Rose saw a 20-yarder fizz wide.

No goals. Not a lot of goalmouth action. But it was a hard-earned point for the Pilgrims.
