Tom Platt’s chances of facing Blyth Spartans tomorrow are ‘50-50’ - but manager Craig Elliott doesn’t want to rush the midfielder back to action.

Last season’s Players’ Player of the Year has been sidelined for the past three matches, which have seen the previously unbeaten Pilgrims pick up just one point.

United have only won one of the six games Platt hasn’t started since his arrival from Alfreton Town last summer.

And it is statistics like that which make Elliott reluctant to push his holding midfielder back into action tomorrow evening.

“He’s 50-50,” Elliott said.

“Maybe next Saturday will be more likely. We've waited this long so it's important we don't have any setbacks with him now.”

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Chorley, Elliott pointed out just how vital Platt is to his side, citing the two penalties conceded in as many first half minutes as an example.

“We've missed him,” Elliott added.

“You can see the penalties, they had reason to run at us and the back four. We’ve missed him and he plays a role that gives us protection.

“Obviously, with the results as well, you can see he's been a massive miss.”
