Boys unbeaten at halfway point

Bassetlaw Boys completed the first half of their season with a 3-1 defeat of Gainsborough Boys on the Northolme ground of Gainsborough Trinity F.C.

The result leaves them with a 100 per cent 11-a-side record.

Manager Alan Pressley was able to use an extended squad of 16 in a match they dominated from the start.

The Gainsborough goalkeeper denied them on a number of occasions in the first 15 minutes before Jay Smith surged down the right and crossed to Lewis Comley who laid on an open goal for Ryan Dixon.

Dixon then added a second following a burst of speed through the middle.

After the interval the Gainsborough goalkeeper again excelled himself and in turn inspired a mini comeback and a goal for his team-mates with five minutes remaining, only the second goal Bassetlaw have conceded all season.

Any revival was short lived however as Jay Smith immediately responded with a well taken goal to complete the Bassetlaw victory.
