Brackley Town or Gateshead? Dominic Knowles and Alex Whittle weigh up Boston United's potential play-off rivals

Dominic Knowles doesn't care who Boston United face in the National League North play-off semi-finals... he just wants to win.

Brackley Town and Gateshead will meet tomorrow (KO 4pm) with the winners travelling to York Street in the final four next Saturday.

Knowles has fond memories of facing Brackley, scoring the late winner as the Pilgrims earned their first-ever home win against the Saints earlier this season and netting twice at their expense in the 2018 play-off final final as Harrogate Town earned promotion.

Gateshead, meanwhile, thrashed United 3-0 home and away this campaign.

However, the former Burton Albion attacker doesn't have a preferred opponent.

"I think it would be nice to get some revenge against Gateshead, they're 6-0 up so far this season with us," he said.

"It'd be nice to get revenge, but I've had some good times against Brackley as well.

"It's such a difficult moment that you can't really say you prefer anybody. We've only had two weeks of training so nobody's going in with any form.

"Everyone's had three months off football so it's almost like the start of the season where nobody knows what will happen."

Knowles, however, knows the importance of a successful play-off run.

He added: "The thing with play-offs is they're great if you win them. If you don't you're kind of left thinking 'why did I bother?'

"We want to win the play-offs."

Defender Alex Whittle was in agreement with his teammates.

He told The Standard: "They're tough games. Gateshead have beaten us twice.

"I don't think the first game (in the north east) had much in it really, a few mistakes. The second game they were better than us.

"But it's the play-offs, and there's all to play for. We'll be more than confident."
