Burbs is back for Curzon trophy tie

ASH Burbeary makes his long awaited return to the Worksop Town line-up on Saturday, in their FA Trophy tie at Curzon Ashton.

The attacking player spent the summer playing for Victoria Highlanders in Canada, and although he returned to the UK weeks ago, has been hampered by international clearance.

But Tigers boss Simon Clark confirmed to the Guardian that Burbeary has been cleared to play this weekend.

One player who isn’t assured of a return to action however is Luke Shiels.

The centre-half, who was carried off with a knee injury at North Ferriby on 4th September, hasn’t yet won his battle for fitness.

Clark said: “He’s a possibility, but it’s maybe too soon.”

“He’s been doing straight line running, but it’s the movement that opens his knee up that will hurt him after that injury.”

The rest of the Worksop Town squad have been working hard in training since their 4-0 rout of Hednesford Town last Tuesday, and the manager has been impressed, although he wants them to move on with momentum,

“Training has been excellent, we’ve done four versus fours and five versus fives and the mood is a little bit different after that result and performance.”

“They’ve been very bright, and the 11 who started at Hednesford have put a stamp down.”

“I’ve told them though, it’s one result, and it means nothing at the end of the season – it’s what we do now, it’s believing we can pass it and score goals.”

Clark is hopeful that his men can go on and better last season’s FA Trophy run, which saw them knocked out in the second round proper by Newport County.

Before exiting the competition they vanquished Bradford Park Avenue, Radcliffe Borough, Tamworth and ironically – Saturday’s opponents Curzon Ashton.

“We just want to be in the hat for the next round,” he said.

“I hope we carry on from Hednesford.”

Striker Tom Denton won’t be available for the FA Trophy clash under the terms of his loan deal.

“He’s a massive miss for us, because he’s really added to us and given us options.”
