Busy week for Boston United as they look to build on win over Truro City

Boston United face a busy week with a National League away game at Wealdstone tomorrow night (Tuesday) before their Lincolnshire Senior Cup final against Grimsby Town at the Jakemans Community Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Pilgrims are looking to build and improve on Saturday's 1-0 home win over relegated Truro City and boss Paul Hurst said: “It will be a strong team on Tuesday at Wealdstone.

“I told the players, having watched them put seven past Hartlepool, they have lots of energy and lots of talented individuals and we are going to have to be so much better than we have been these last couple of games to get anything and limit the damage they might cause us.

“Then team-wise for Wednesday, a lot of it will probably be the U21 lads. We will see how we go Tuesday first and foremost.

“It will be a late return Tuesday night or the early hours of Wednesday morning, so we will see as we don't want to risk injury.

“At the same time if we think the game will benefit one or two of them then we will look to involve them.”

Jordy Hiwula scored a classy winning goal as United returned to winning ways against already relegated Truro City on Saturday and Hurst said: “I was delighted with the win and the clean sheet – and that is probably where it stops if we are being truthful. It wasn't a good spectacle.

“First half I thought three or four times we had some good moves and should probably have taken advantage of at least one of those to give ourselves more comfort at half-time.

“But at the end of the first half we got ourselves in a lot of mess and they hit the post which was a bit of a warning.

“We knew the conditions were against us second half, and the wind did slightly pick up – but we never got going.

“Jordy took his goal really well and, when he goes through, he looks confident and scores.

“We defended well enough for the majority of the game, so I think we did enough to just about win. But the second half was a tough watch for sure.

“It was nice to at least get a win again. It's been a while after what was an excellent run.”

The Pilgrims were good value for their victory despite needing a last-gasp Connor Teale goalline clearance before the break to preserve their advantage.

Sunderland loanee Dan Cameron made the game's first save - back-peddling to tip Zac Bell's deflected effort over the bar.

The Pilgrims took the lead on the 15 minute mark when Marcel Lavinier stepped infield from left-back to slide a glorious through ball into the path of Hiwula to run on and beat ex-Pilgrim Aidan Stone with a great finish.

Lenell John-Lewis saw an effort hacked off the line by Ryan Law, while Luca Barrington lashed an effort too high when well-placed.

Cameron made a crucial save to deny Harry Charsley, with Teale clearing the loose ball off the line in the nick of time.

Barrington made a terrific burst at the start of the second half, but Oisin Gallagher was unable to steer the ball home after an unfortunate bobble.

It was an otherwise quiet half for Cameron and Stone - as United did enough to close out their fourth home victory since Hurst's return to the club.
