Kyle Watkins has left Boston Town, but manager Gary Edgley says the door remains open for the defender at the DWB Stadium.

Last season's skipper has joined Northern Premier League South East Division outfit Lincoln United ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

"Kyle Watkins we've lost, he's gone to Lincoln United," Edgley confirmed.

"He feels he wants to push himself and we wish him well. He goes with our blessings, it's one of those things.

Edgley admitted he can understand the former Lincoln City youth teamer's ambition to play at a higher level, and has told Watkins he would always be welcomed back by the Poachers.

"If lads leave us and go down a level or go to somebody else like a Holbeach or Pinchbeck, or another team on par with where we are, it's disappointing because we feel we've maybe not done our job right as these lads want to leave," Edgley added.

"But when they're stepping up we've always been the same.

"All the best to him. If it doesn't work out he's always welcome back."

With a September start date in place for the United Counties League Premier Division, recruitment is now stepping up.

And while Edgley is looking to bolster his squad, he told The Standard league rivals are also trying to tempt his players away.

"He (Kyle) is the only player at the minute we've lost, everybody else is fully committed," Edgley added.

"We're not going to be bringing in wholsesale numbers, four maybe five to the club."
