Jordan Thewlis proved spot on yet again, converting two penalties as nine-man Boston United left Farsley Celtic with a vital 3-2 victory.

Dominic Knowles was also on target as the Pilgrims moved up to eighth in the National League North, just one point of the play-off places with a game in hand.

In a game of three spot kicks, Will Hayhurst converted from 12 yards, while Jimmy Spencer also netted for the hosts.

But Boston didn't have things their own way, finishing the game with nine men as Martyn Woolford was dismissed for violent conduct and Demeaco Duhaney picked up two bookings.

United had already seen Tom Platt strike the woodwork and lost defender Alex Penny, following a clash of heads with Daniel Ellis, before Thewlis put United ahead from the spot.

The Boston striker slotted home his 12th goal of the campaign after Hayhurst handled Woolford's cross.

But three minutes later the hosts were level at The Citadel as Spencer was left unmarked to head home Hayhurst's free kick.

Peter Crook then ensured the scores were level at the interval, pulling off an important save to deny Nathan Cartman.

Cartman got the better of Crook two minutes after the re-start, but this time his effort rattled the woodwork.

Boston regained the lead when Knowles slotted his sixth of the campaign beyond Kyle Trennery, put through by Thewlis, who met Ashley Jackson's huge clearance.

But once again Celtic levelled within minutes, this time Hayhurst converting from the spot after Crook tripped Spencer.

Woolford's afternoon ended abruptly in the 62nd minte, the well-travelled winger hacking down Jordan Richards and then shoving an opponent in the aftermath.

But 10-man Boston once again edged in front from the third spot kick of the afternoon.

Thewlis again made no mistake from 12 yards after Jay Rollins was flattened by Tom Allan, the in-form striker taking his tally to 13 goals in 19 appearances.

Farsley found themselves down to 10 men after the injured Adam Clayton was unable to continue, the hosts having made all three substitutions.

But their man advantage was restored as Duhaney picked up his second yellow of the day for kicking the ball away after conceding a corner in the 89th minute.

Remarkably, it was Boston who added to sixth gaol of the game, Brad Abbott rounding Trennery in stoppage time to complate the victory.
