Chorley rout Tigers at Sandy Lane

WORKSOP Town were thrashed 5-1 by high-flying Chorley at Sandy Lane on Saturday.

Tigers were without goalkeeper Jon Worsnop, who asked to be released at the end of last week, and Sheffield Wednesday loanee Sean Cuff made his debut.

With strikers Jamie Jackson, Massiah McDonald and Craig King all on the bench, Ash Burbeary started the game up front on his own for Worksop.

It was the visitors who struck first, new signing Ciaran Kilheeney opening the scoring on 10 minutes.

Owain Warlow hit back within a minute to level, but just before the break Matt Walwyn got his first to restore Chorley’s lead.

Things got even worse for Simon Clark’s men after the break, Burbeary seeing a red card for raising his hands, Walwyn going on to complete a hat-trick and Kilheeney scoring his second.

Tigers, who lie 15th in the Northern Premier – nine points from the drop zone – are back in action tomorrow night at 16th placed Stocksbridge Park Steels.
