Clarke happy with form after slow start to the campaign

The man who signed from Conference North Gainsborough Trinity in the summer has notched three goals – all away from home – and looked more assured alongside Conor Higginson and Josh Davies in a midfield three.

Speaking after Wednesday’s 5-0 drubbing of Stafford he told the Guardian he was pleased with his form, and settled in a new system.

He said: “I think the first few games were a little bit slow, but it’s picked up since then.”

“It was getting used to the new formation and the new surroundings, but I’ve been happy as of late.”

The Lincoln based footballer believes that the midfield partnership is starting to gel, as they play to their individual strengths.

“I think we all know what we’re doing now,” he said.

“Conor is very good at attacking, and third man running, whereas Josh is the ball player and I like to tidy things up. “

“We all compliment each other quite well.”

Clarke ran Higginson close to the Man of the Match award in midweek, when he was delighted to play a part in a home victory at last.

“I think we’re just happy to get a good result at home.”

“Our away form has been pretty good, we score goals, everyone knows that, so someone was always going to get it at home.”

“It was a good time to do it.”

And although last weekend saw Tigers crash out of the FA Cup at Solihull Moors, Clarke is looking forward to another knockout competition this Saturday, the FA Trophy.

He said: “It was a little bit disappointing to go out of the FA Cup. I thought we had a chance really, it wasn’t a 4-0 game, but the result is done and we move on to the next one on Saturday.”
