Clay Cross maintain their unbeaten run

A SECOND half strike for Clay Cross saw the hosts maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Clay Cross dominated the early exchanges but weren’t able to get beyond a resolute Park defence and in-form ‘keeper Gareth Pywell.

Despite not having much possession, Park looked dangerous on the break with Longmore, Gorman and McDonnell having efforts on goal.

The breakthrough came when Gorman broke clear before neatly chipping the on rushing keeper to send the visitor’s into the lead.

Clay Cross equalised two minutes before the break when an unfortunate slip from Jon Barnes in the area meant he was unable to cut out a cross, which was controlled and finished to draw the home side level.

Chances came at either end as both sides sensed victory.

The winner was bundled in after Park were unable to clear their lines from a dangerous corner.

Kiveton Park’s next game is away at Glapwell on Tuesday 21st August.

Sherwood Colliery 2

HARWORTH Colliery maintained their 100 per cent start to the new season after defeating Sherwood Colliery 5-2 on Tuesday night.

A bright start by the hosts saw them score twice in the first five minutes through Sides and Belshaw.

Edmundson extended the lead shortly after the hour-mark but then Harworth took their foot off the pedal and let the visitors back into the game.

Aaron Darcy and James Whitmore scored in quick succession to make it 3-2, and the momentum was with Sherwood to complete the comeback.

But Harworth dug deep and two late goals from Anderson and Belshaw took the game away from Sherwood.

Harworth, who beat Bentley Colliery 3-0 on Saturday in their first home game of the new campaign, have taken nine points from their first three games.

Harworth travel to Yorkshire Main at the weekend before entertaining Thorne Colliery at home on Bank Holiday Monday.
