Coach Cavell can freshen things up at Boston United - Greene

Cavell, 53, had two stints with the Pilgrims in the 1990s, scoring 42 times in 134 appearances.

But Greene knows him from their playing days when the pair where teammates at Dagenham and Redbridge.

“He brings different ideas, which is what we’re looking for,” said Greene.

The manager, assistant Martyn Bunce and goalkeeping coach Michael Emery are used to running the rule over training.

But Greene believes that his old pal’s arrival can also help the club look at further ways to combat the opposition.

“Paul spoke to me a couple of times about coming to Boston, and everytime I go to another club they seem to have two goalkeeper coaches and four people warming the team up,” he added.

“He’s come in and it’ll give us more time to do other things, whether it’s going to watch another player, or watch a game in the week.”

Greene was quick to point to Saturday’s pre-match warm-up at Nuneaton Town, where both Bunce and Cavell were able to warm-up smaller groups with more one-to-one attention prior to kick off.

“We’re just falling in line with everyone else,” the manager added.

“Other teams have the blessing of someone in the stand watching higher up, maybe we can do that rather than just two heads at ground level.

“Hopefully it’ll work.”

Cavell is also working within the Centre of Excellence coaching set-up at Doncaster Rovers.

Boston are away at AFC Telford United today (KO 3pm).
