Craig Elliott gave his Boston United backline the thumbs up for their 'incredible' run of clean sheets.

The Pilgrims' 2-0 win over Alfreton Town this afternoon saw the side record their seventh shut out from 13 games played this campaign as they recorded their first victory at the Jakemans Community Stadium.

And it could have been eight from 14 had the game at Darlington not been abandoned in the 87th minute with Boston 2-0 up.

"Clean sheets, the stats are incredible," Elliott said at full time.

"Fair play to the team, but especially the defence and goalkeeper. Its pretty impressive how many clean sheets we get."

Today's victory moved the Pilgrims up six places to sixth in the National League North, marking a return to the play off places.

"Three points, it was important we got that today," reflected Elliott after goals from Joe Leesley and Tom Platt secured victory.

"I was really pleased with the performance - especially first half. I think we deserved the win.

"I was a bit gutted when they got the penalty as I didn't think we were under any pressure. It felt like a 2-0, 3-0 game. It was a fair result to be honest."

The Reds' spot kick was awarded in the second half for a foul on Jake Day by Scott Garner as the hosts led 2-0.

Day took the penalty which crashed down off the bar as play continued, but Elliott thinks referee Dean Watson may have got two decisions wrong.

"I felt it wasn't a penalty and Garns said he's got the ball," the manager said.

"But when he's hit it I thought the ball went over the line. Maybe it's a bit of luck we've been due."

Garner replaced skipper Luke Shiels at half time after the defender suffered a knee injury in the first half.

When asked whether Shiels would be fit for Monday's trip to Farsley Celtic, Elliott added: "I'm not sure. I'm hoping he is.

"He's been unbelieveable for us, but we've got others to come in.

"He was walking about in there so hopefully it's not too bad."
